[/b] - Filipa is a great liar. She has this pretty little angel smile, one that can usually convince those around her that she is completely innocent. Hell, everything about her looks harmless. When people try to tell her that she is pushing too hard and working herself past her limits, she'll flash that smile and do her best to convince them that she is perfectly fine. She can talk her way out of any situation, something she stumbled upon quite naturally and that seems to always help her when she's busy trying to be the best at the more frowned upon activities (those drinking games, duels, etc). There's a passion in her eyes but when she needs to, she can easily hide it.

strengths:
Acceptance - Filipa is very accepting of everyone but herself. She doesn't care about being friends with purebloods and people who are the best. You can wear whatever kind of robes you want and come from whatever kind of family God put you in and Filipa will honestly not give a damn. She loves people who are interesting and those that can give her a good time, regardless of their background or house. She is naturally very nice to those around her until they have something that she wants or that she wants to beat them in. And even then, when she's locked eyes on your title or role, she won't be a bitch toward you. She'll just work her hardest to be better than you. Filipa can make friends with just about anyone (oh, except for her pratty brother) and really genuinely likes a lot of her peers.
Driven - Now, this is the healthy side of her obsession with being the best. It is a strength only because it separates her from those around her that might be seen as lazy and uncaring. Filipa has a strong drive and a strong will power to get what she wants. Her drive pushes her very, very far most of the time but without it, Filipa will admit that she will be nothing. She would be just another face in the crowd and so she owes mostly everything to her inner drive. Although it's been tainted and is now unhealthy, Filipa's drive was once normal and there is still glimmers of it being that way at current. Those glimmers are quickly hidden by the craving to be the best though.[/ul]
weaknesses:
Selfish - Filipa is also a very selfish person. As much as she wants to be the best, she wants to be the best alone. There is only one first place and no one is going to be allowed on that pedestal beside Filipa. If there's one seat left and she's with a friend, she won't simply share that seat. God, don't even think about asking her to share. She'll get into that seat and not only will she defend it, but she'll brag about it to. Having the most stuff correlates with being the best and there's nothing Filipa won't do for that goal. She's the only child in a poorly repaired family and so she doesn't know the meaning of the word sharing. When forced to work with a partner, Filipa doesn't care who takes charge, which goes to say that selfish shouldn't be mistaken for bossy. She could give a damn who's telling her to do things but she will do her best to upstage her team/partner and be number one without their help.
Self-doubt - Lastly, Filipa is her own harshest critic. She doubts herself and judges herself more than anyone around her. In her head, she believes that everyone is better at her in some way and thus, she will put herself down until she changes that. Even when she is the best, Filipa has this biting voice telling her that she is still the worse. Once she convinces herself that she is the worst, the voice is there, telling her that no one will appreciate her still, no matter how hard she tried and how high she climbed.[/ul]

overall history: It was March fourteenth, a rainy morning with a chill in the air. Charlotte Walker had just spent nine hours delivering a tiny baby girl whom she named Filipa Jane. She was a single mother, although that wasn't exactly true. At the time of birth Filipa carried the last name Walker, however, there was a man in her mothers life (as there is when a baby is born normally). This man was kind of from out of nowhere for the blond journalist. She was walking home one day from work when she bumped into some guy on the street and just like that, they were in love. Love. Yeah, right. Although at the time that's what it had seemed like. Charlotte was a naive woman who was desperate for a lover and when a married man stumbled along, she wasn't about to push him away. They started out as friends but Charlotte knew from the very beginning that he was married. She felt wrong about it and she was definitely never in the right but there was a feeling she had about him that she couldn't ignore. And thus, they started seeing each other. It was nothing big, a drink here, a walk in the park there, and then suddenly, they were in bed together after one too many bottles of rum. Nine months later, Filipa was born. This man, he was a pig. Charlotte was a husband stealer, she'll admit it, but she wanted to leave him after she gave birth to Filipa. She knew that it was wrong and that Filipa deserved a husband that Charlotte could be proud of but Charlotte needed him. There was no way she could raise a baby on her own income and the man sounded so smitten with the idea of having another family. For those few years everything seemed fine. Charlotte would push her manfriend to choose her or his wife but he found an out every time. And then one day, it all fell apart. The system they had so they wouldn't get caught was ruined, because Filipa's father was caught red handed.
Filipa was only five when she found her mother crying on the linoleum of their kitchen. Fili curled up in her mother's lap and listened as she repeated "I'm so sorry my sweet Filipa". She was too young to understand the concept that her father had abandon his daughter so that he could win back his first family. For those months or that year that he was trying to be a better husband, Filipa didn't understand why he was gone. She asked for him everyday but her mother would only shake her head and mutter something about being stupid and naive. However, they moved on. Filipa was just getting used to the idea of having a single parent family when her father had come back into their life and this time, for good. She retreated from him but he was still her father. They then went on, pretending like everything was okay and that they weren't a screwed up family of an adulterer and a husband stealer. It wasn't until Filipa's first year in Hogwarts that she realized what had really happened. It started with the meeting of her half brother and sister, two people she didn't even know existed, and ended with a long letter from her mother that explained everything more in depth. At that point, Filipa began hating her father for leaving them. She began hating herself for the being the second best daughter. She was sorted into Slytherin but only because the hat must have seen this inner struggle going on. He saw right too, as this was when Filipa started working her best to dominate every activity she took on.
Throughout the years she made friends, lots of them. Filipa was nice and charming and she liked just about everybody. But she had also made enemies, those that she had stepped on and taken their glory. She wanted to be smarter than the ravenvlaws, stronger than the gryffindors, and a harder worker than the hufflepuffs and thus a group of people didn't like that attitude. She was a competitor and she worked hard so that everybody knew it. Filipa got into drinking and swearing and snogging. She never fell in love and she never lost her v-card, but because she had never found anyone that could measure up to herself (and there was no way she was going to fall for anyone less than she). She accepted every walk of life but not when it came to her heart. That was kept safe for the perfect knight in shining armor. She resents her father and loves her mother and hates her half brother. Although she and her half sister are on good terms, as their both nice and accepting. Filipa is now in her sixth year and just kicked some major O.W.L. ass and is working to become a head of some department in the ministry.

role play sample:There was something wrong, Lucy could tell. She was in the hotel room, primping herself and practicing, ready to count the cards on the poker table. She hadn't heard from Jack, her boyfriend, in a while but she assumed he was hitting the slot machines early. They were both kind of getting sick of one another anyhow as he spent most of the day hungover and she was still recovering from the fight they had the night before. She checked herself in the mirror once more, happy with the little black dress she bought for this trip, and then exited her room. It was a short walk to to the base of the casino where she was going to use her smarts for something other than passing a test for once. When she made it to the casino area, she was overcome with the sounds. There was the slot machines dinging, people talking and yelling in either anger or happiness, and music blaring over the speakers. It was something she had heard all weekend but still never would get used to. Lucy collected herself in spite of being overwhelmed and walked through the aisles of slot machines, getting anxious as there was no sight of Jack anywhere. She then checked the many tables, the gift shop, even the dance floor and he was just gone. Lucy wanted to start but she knew she couldn't start without him. She needed him to keep watch in case anyone was getting suspicious. And so, with all the courage she could muster up, she walked over to the help desk.
"Hi, I'm looking for a man named Jack Williams..." She declared in a meek voice. She never was good with talking to people and especially not when things felt so off like they did tonight. The woman smiled and then turned to her telephone, dialed, and asked if they could find him. She hung up the phone, shrugged, and shook her head at Lucy. Great. Lucy thought. She thinks I'm just some pitiful girl that was left at the casino as her boyfriend screws some hooker at a stripclub. Lucy was always thinking the worst when she was stressed. She turned away from the desk with a polite thank-you and then returned to her room, unsure of what else to do. She collapsed on the bed and kicked of her heels, her hand lazily turning on the tv when she saw it. The mugshot of her Ivy League boyfriend staring back at her. It was only on for a minute and Lucy had to convince herself it was him as she strained to listen to the story. The newscaster was saying something about a drunk-driving accident and a man being in custody. Lucy didn't feel bad for him, he was an asshole the night before. He deserved to be in jail if he was going to act like that. But then her heart sank. They went on to report that he was regrettably killed in the holding cell after he and a group of men got into a fight.
Tears stung her eyes and anger pricked through her. She was so mad at him for being such a hot tempered asshole but at the same time, she had just felt like her world had ended. Her boyfriend was gone and she didn't get to say goodbye. Lucy sat, frozen, as she tried to take in the meaning of what she had just heard. There were so many emotions swimming through her that she had to burst and after playing zombie for about five minutes, she suddenly jumped to life. Lucy grabbed wiped the tears from her eyes and walked into the bathroom, weirdly calm on the outside as her insides were imploding. She stood in front of the mirror, staring at the mess of mascara that streaked her cheeks and just like that, her fists flew at the glass. It didn't break like she had expected, like she had seen it in all the movies. But she wasn't finished. She pounded on the mirror, over and over, until the glass shattered and her fists were spotted with blood. Her body spun toward the shower curtain and she ripped it off the hooks, throwing it in the bathtub in anger.
Lucy then returned into the room, opened her suitcase, and tore through it. She blindly took her clothes, throwing them all over room. She grabbed her make up bag, emptied on her bed, and then did the same, the sound of the little plastic compacts and pots shattering on the walls, leaving brightly colored smears. Lucy then went on to destroy the curtains, tv, dresser, minibar, anything she could get her hands on. She wanted the outside to match the inside. She wanted her room to feel just as broken and destroyed as she had felt. Lucy then collapsed onto the floor, her back against the wall, staring at the mess she had made. Although the room looked as if it was hit by a tornado, it still didn't do her emotions justice.
