overall history:
It wasn't hard for Harry and Ginny to come up with a name for their baby girl. One name considered, Molly, was already chosen by Percy and his wife, Audrey, for their first child. So rather than her maternal grandmother, Lily was named after her paternal grandmother, Lily Evans-Potter, and a mutual good friend of her parents, Luna. Needless to say, a child named Lily Luna Potter had a lot to live up to.
She did feel the pressure from a young age. It was natural for a child to ask questions, and it was natural for people to talk about some of the wizarding world's biggest celebrities. Of course, Lily also asked her daddy how he'd gotten that funny scar on his face. So Lily heard from a young age how her father was the one to defeat Voldemort, with the help of Aunt Hermione and Uncle Ron, as well as many other members of her extended family and family friends. She grew up a happy child, almost always surrounded by other kids her age, whether in the form of her older brothers or her cousins. Lily learned from a young age that in order to be heard, she had to make herself be heard, though the fact that she was the only little girl in the Potter family meant that her parents (her father especially) doted on her a little more because of that. There wasn't much that Lily went without growing up.
When Lily was 9, her first brother, James, went to Hogwarts. He was sorted into Gryffindor like his namesake paternal grandfather, which was no surprise to anyone. Albus went to Hogwarts the next year, with James teasing him the whole way about being sorted into Slytherin. Lily thought the prospect sounded scary by the way that James was talking, but then she watched as her father took Albus aside to talk to him alone. He might have intended to talk to Albus one on one, but Lily was a ten year old girl, and ten year old girls have ways of eavesdropping without being found out. She overheard what her father told Al about the Slytherin house, how "the bravest man he ever knew" was in Slytherin, and Lily had her mind made up then and there. Albus might have gone on to be sorted into Ravenclaw (a bit of a shock on it's own), but Lily had her eyes set on a different house.
With James starting his third year and Albus starting his second, Lily started her first year at Hogwarts. She strode up to the sorting hat, determined to be the bravest girl that her father ever knew. As the hat was placed onto her head, it debated between placing her in Gryffindor and Slytherin. In the end, just as her father told Albus, her choice was taken into consideration, and the hat called out "Slytherin!", causing more than a few stunned looks. Lily beamed and started off toward the Slytherin table, before she was stopped by a professor who informed her that she still had the hat on her head and the next student in her year still needed to be sorted.
It was the first time Lily had a rush from doing something others didn't expect from her, and it was something she began to crave.
Lily was never known as the most well-behaved girl at Hogwarts, though she goes about it in a different way than most. Her brothers might play pranks, but she, on the other hand, would do crazy things such as cartwheel to the Slytherin table in the Great Hall simply to gauge what kind of reaction it would receive. She liked attention, and she would do almost anything to receive it.
Now, though, her life has taken on a different turn. Has she calmed down since her parents died? Not entirely. She's still Loudmouth Lily, Hogwarts' favorite attention whore. Now, though, she's more focused than ever on creating a name for herself separate from that of her parents. She loves them dearly, but the last thing she wants is to be caught in their shadow for the rest of her life. She's been following acts like the Weird Sisters and has been trying to start up her own band at Hogwarts. Thus far, she's had limited success, but if she actually succeeds in the long run remains to be seen.

role play sample: ""Can you buy me that plushie, Ollie?"
It started off well enough. Ed Winchester's brother and sister in law happened to be coming through North Carolina on their way to South Carolina and wanted to do a bit of catching up. Oliver couldn't blame them, and was even somewhat happy to see Uncle Barry and Aunt Samantha. He was happy to see his little cousin, Kristy, especially the six year old showed off her ability to read.
It was all fine and dandy until Oliver was elected to play babysitter.
Ed, Judy, Barry, and Samantha decided that they wanted to spend some time together doing 'grown up things' (specified as such because of Kristy's presence, though both Oliver and Cindy were well aware that this likely meant some quality time spent at the Happy Cacti). It was between Oliver and Cindy to decide who would watch the delightful six year old visitor...and it was at this vital moment that Cindy declared that she had a date, and the coveted job was foisted upon Oliver.
It wasn't so much that he entirely minded the job, just that he wasn't given much of a choice in the matter. He'd opted to head into town with Kristy, since it was a nice day (and he didn't want her to touch anything in his room and break it), asking her where she wanted to go. She was quick to suggest the book store, since she could read now! Oliver couldn't help but grin and grabbed the six year old by the hand as he steered her into the bookstore.
"No Kristy, you can't have a plushie. We're here for a book, remember?"
"Can I get a plushie and a book?"
"You just said you wanted a book..."
He and Kristy continued toward the children's section. Once the two reached the border, Kristy slipped out of Oliver's grip and went running. Oliver didn't bother to chase after, simply grinning as Kristy instantly went over to the 'easy reader' section, tracing her fingers over the covers and appearing to be reading each title out loud. Oliver decided to take his sweet time in making his way over there. By the time he was in earshot, he received confirmation that Kristy was indeed showing off her massive skill in reading the covers of all the books.
"Joan of Arc. George Wash-ing-ton. Wil-bur and Or-ville Wright."
Oliver had to resist the urge to facepalm. She was going over the children's history books. He decided to distract her with a question. "Find anything you want yet?"
Kristy nodded and pointed to the books directly in front of her. Oliver let out a sigh. "Which one?" Dare he hope it would be the George Washington one, seeing as he hadn't come across Washington's reincarnation yet?
"I dunno..." The six year old proceeded to do eenie meenie minie moe on the books, pointing her finger to each book at each word. She stopped at "moe" picking up...you guessed it.
"Wil-bur and Or-ville Wright." The little girl sounded out again. Her cousin, meanwhile, looked skyward, with an expression that could only be described as 'why me?'. He grabbed an oblivious and excited Kristy by the hand and the two started walking back toward the front. Of all the books in all of the book stores in all of Riverdale (which, to be fair, wasn't that large)...she had to pick that one.
"Orville Wright. He's the guy on the popcorn box, isn't he?"
"NO." The response from Oliver was so pronounced that Kristy jumped a little, staring down at her book and falling into silence. Oliver, meanwhile, relished this silence. He knew none of this was Kristy's fault, but who could blame him for being annoyed after all the Redenbacher jokes that came his way? Sure, he had a sense of humor, but it could only go so far...
And, apparently, Kristy's ability to keep silent could only go so far as well. "Wilbur has a shiny head."
Oliver cracked a smile at this. "He does, doesn't he? So shiny that he probably uses pine sol on it. You know, like those commercials? I can't see how else he would get that head so shiny." That's it. Get the subject off of himself. He felt relieved already. Maybe Kristy choosing this book wouldn't be so bad after all. Maybe he could even read it with her...not exactly sharing the events as he remembered them, as that would be a bit too odd, but answering any questions that she might have. Other than Nate, he was the best person to ask on these matters.
"Orville has a funny moustache."
Oliver's smile slipped off of his face at once as he let out another exasperated sigh. "No, he doesn't. That sort of moustache was popular during that time period. It's just a sign of the times."
"I still think it looks funny."
They were almost to the front. They were almost home free. Just a few steps more now...
"Hey, doesn't Orville have a funny moustache?"
Oliver turned around at once, only to look on in horror as Kristy was holding up her book for someone else, asking their input on the matter. And that someone else happened to be someone he knew from Riverdale High... "Kids say the darndest things, hmm?" Oliver responded, strangled sounding laugh and all."
