THE SCARS OF YOUR LOVE

the thing victoire dislikes the most about herself is her name. she finds it pompous, corny, hard to pronounce correctly for everyone except the french-speaking side of the family, harsh-sounding and terrible-looking when written down. she often wonders if it would still be her name had she been born on any day other than the 2nd may, and when she tried to ditch it in favour of her middle name – one of those adolescence phases -, everybody laughed and reasoned, “but if we call you gabrielle, what should we call your aunt? victoire, maybe?”; it was then that victoire realised it was useless to fight it. they might even get offended at her apparent blatant lack of respect for the war. It was then that victoire started encouraging people to call her by a nickname, such as vic or vee – never vicky or tori, ever. those are just a no-go.
the second thing victoire dislikes the most about herself is her abundant freckles. her face is perpetually covered by little random brown spots, be it summer or winter, and she has long rejected the notion that all part-veelas have flawless complexions; that may have held true until the beautiful vela genes were overpowered by the stronger (too strong?) weasley genes. while she doesn’t mind the red hair that almost always comes with being a weasley, she does mind her freckles, and no amount of witch-weekly condoned liniment or muggle fond-de-teint has been able to conceal them to her liking. her freckles have been the reason behind her being made of fun in the past, which doesn’t really add to their popularity, and even though her family make it a point to say they’re cute and make her more unique, victoire wishes she could just charm the wretched things off.
the thing victoire values the most is her family. although she is loathe to admit it (probably wouldn’t even do it on her deathbed), every single weasley, potter and delacour holds a very special place in victoire’s heart. sometimes they are too obtrusive, and there is hardly ever a moment’s privacy and peace and quiet when she can hear her thoughts. most of the time they are very loving, the exception being when someone makes some sort of hurtful comment that leads to sulking, passive-aggressiveness, the silent treatment and a shouting match, depending on the occasion. sometimes it’s hard to stand out, because they think and act and interact like collectively, like a quidditch team. except a quidditch team has got less players than there are members in her family, so it’s really difficult to have all eyes on one, like seekers do. still, victoire wonders about other families’ dynamics, but she wouldn’t trade hers for the world.
the thing victoire understands the least is hugo. she doesn’t quite see how someone could change so much in so little time, but perhaps the subtler modifications were there all along and she failed to notice them. she can understand that he needed to grow a thick skin for the slytherin environment – and what a surprise that had been, victoire herself had been so gobsmacked that she had even forgot to clap -, but she can’t understand why they’re not good for him anymore. she can understand that he’ll want to spend part of the summer holidays with his friends, because she does too, but she can’t understand why that is inextricably connected to his shying away from them. she can’t understand hugo these days, and it worries the crap out of her.
the subject victoire likes the least is herbology. she has never had a green thumb, and it was only by some astounding effort that she managed to get an ee in her o.w.l.s two years ago; she doesn’t think history will repeat itself this time round, so she’s more or less started to prepare her parents and herself for the big possibility of getting an a. conversely, victoire’s favourite subjects are charms and ancient runes, and she has a secret penchant for history of magic – which could be really interesting if it weren’t for binns and his everlasting monotone. (un)surprisingly, victoire hasn’t got much of an idea about what she wants to do after leaving hogwarts, career-wise. what she does want to do after leaving hogwarts, intention-wise, is spend a few months with mamie and papi in france, almost like a gap year.
the season victoire likes the most is winter, especially around christmas. she finds it impossible to resist that holiday cheer and all the delicious foods that come with it. she likes to see christmas lights, get presents, have snowball fights, build snowmen, go sleigh-riding and carolling and sitting in front of the fireplace while a snowstorm goes on outside. she doesn’t care much for sunny weather, because it makes her freckles stand out even more and it makes her look like a cooked lobster – it’s common knowledge redheads don’t really tan, they merely get sunburnt.

role play sample:Victoire couldn't quite make up her mind as to whether she enjoyed a prefect's nightly duties or not. Patrolling the corridors and hallways was much more intimidating than during the day, especially when she remembered she was at Peeves's mercy; on the other hand, she had first-hand knowledge on which places were the least likely to be subject to inspection, and that information had come in handy a number of times. Broom cupboards, in particular, seemed to be the most overlooked, and Victoire had already come across one that looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years. Clearly, that horrid Filch wasn't doing his job properly.
With only the light coming from the tip of her wand to guide her, Victoire made her way up the West Tower, eyes flickering back and forth as her ears caught the sound of creaking staircases and snoring portraits. The soft glow gave her presence away, making it easier for rule-breakers to escape unpunished, but Victoire was not aware of any spell or contraption that would allow her to see in the dark, and so she had no choice but to stick to her faithful Lumos. As she began to walk down a corridor, her wand held out in front of her, Victoire felt something quite unexpected: a cool night breeze. It was just the sort of thing that needed investigating, and it wouldn't be the first time she caught a lovestruck pair sitting on a window sill.
Making no effort to silence her footsteps, Victoire hurried forward, spotting the open window just at the end of the corridor. She pointed her wand left, then right, then left again, trying to spot the culprit amidst the suits of armour. As she stood only a couple of feet away from the window, a frown appeared on Victoire's pale face. She'd been too late, and they'd got away. Victoire breathed heavily through her nose and made a move to close the window. Just then, a loud clatter caught her attention, and Victoire quickly turned round, her wand arm stretched out in front of her. "Who's there?" she called out harshly, hoping to scare whoever it was into coming out of their hiding place. "Come on out, I'm a prefect!" She waited two seconds before embracing her tactics again. "If you don't come out now you'll be in trouble!" Victoire warned, now holding her wand in a tighter grip.
