dementor: Her father. As much as she likes to pretend he doesn't scare her, her worst memory is his face leering over her when she was a young child as she curled up in pain on the floor. It was like everything was spinning and he seemed to laugh like some crazed jack in the box.
patronus: When her cousins came to her and asked her to follow them. She was one of the first to be asked to join and she was part of something. Also, it meant that she was under the protection of her cousins now officially. Her father couldn't hurt her.

overall history: Guinevere Dolohov was unlucky. Perhaps if she had been raised in a normal, loving household she would have grown up to be a normal, loving young woman. Or not. It was true to say that even if her parents had defied all odds and been kind, caring people, she still had genetics working against her. Years of cousins marrying each other in the Gaunt line had led to cruel, ill tempered genes being passed down and strengthened. Her mother was a socialite. A very very young socialite. And she was stupid. Stupid, vain and weak, unlike her siblings. They had no faith in her abilities whatsoever. The only thing she cared about was her appearance and she was no good at the politics or manipulation. Her family looked down on her. She was given to Apollo Dolohov when she was nineteen and he was Thirty Five. And she hated him. But still, she did as he told her and had to bare it when he hit her around. It was what she had been told a proper wife must do and she simply had to bare it. A year later they had their first daughter. Then, after three years along came their son, followed swiftly by Gwen.

When Gwen was born, her father had the idea to call her Guinevere. He had heard the Arthurian Legend and thought of Guinevere as a cruel hearted whore who ruined Camelot. It may be obvious from his choice of name and his explanation of it that Gwen was not wanted.
