Hyperion Lestrange had never been particularly gifted in the art of waiting, predominantly the standing still aspect that was expected, according to his mother, of gentleman. His habit of fidgeting drove the woman insane, and if she’d seen him on this particular night, she would have swiftly went about swatting at his fingers with her wand until he’d stilled- he was unconsciously toying with the family ring on his right hand, using his thumb to twist the band around his finger until it had made a full rotation and then continuing the action. He stood just to the side of the doorway leading into the Great Hall, doing his best to hide his obvious discomfort and failing rather miserably. It wouldn’t have been so bad if there had been someone around to talk to, like Al or Dray. Bloody hell, he would’ve even settled for Victoire Weasley! At least she would’ve provided a decent distraction from these endless moments of waiting for his date to mystically appear from the opposite end of the entrance foyer.
Selwyn had convinced him, after a little nagging, to ask Kimberly Greyback to this ungodly ball, and after a little persistent asking he’d convinced her to say yes. Hyp had thought nothing of it since, aside from the brief exchange they’d shared concerning color coordination and when they’d actually leave for the ball. And then suddenly Valentine’s day was upon them. The blonde had found himself in the Slytherin common room, decked out in a dress shirt, waistcoat, necktie- the whole shebang- waiting politely by the girl’s dormitory as girls in nearly every step of preparedness flitted about him. Some wore their hairs in curlers, others donned only partially made-up faces while some still trotted around in what looked to be pajamas. He’d quirked his eyebrow in curiosity, decided it would be best not to ask, and instead picked the most put together, least frantic female he could find to inquire about Kim’s state of readiness. A few minutes after disappearing into the swarm, the girl- a petite little blonde, probably third year, who blushed at the mere sight of him- emerged with the news that Kim was ready, but there’d been some sort of fiasco with one of the fifth year girls that she was ever so diligently working to right. The message was that she’d meet him in the entrance foyer in a few minutes, and after thanking the third year and asking her to pass along his agreement with the arrangement, the blonde had promptly left.
Now he regretted his decision to leave as a group of Ravenclaw girls loped past him, all casting curious looks his way and whispering amongst themselves. He grinned at them, satisfied by the few fits of giggles that bubbled from the group, and watched them carry on their way without any further pestering about his situation. Sighing, he raked the fingers of the hand not preoccupied with the family ring through his dark blonde locks, nails scraping along his scalp. Blue eyes glanced at the stairway descending into the dungeons for the billionth time since he’d set up his post, ridiculously hoping for his date to appear. He knew he should have waited for her in the common room, harping females be damned.

There were a few things in life that Kimberly didn't do and one of them were dances. Sure she loved music and to dance but going with the rest of the students at Hogwarts wasn't her thing. It seemed too mainstream for her and usually she denied dates. Not that she got asked often. A date to a dance wasn't her thing. She liked going on dates that were more adventurous than this. A guy who asked her to a dance definitely wasn't creative enough to keep her attention for long. And then Hyperion Lestrange asked her to the Valentine's Day Ball. She laughed openly when he asked because she thought it was a joke. He was the seventh year, man-whore and bad boy of Slytherin while she was just herself, sixth year and not a blonde bimbo. She thought it was a joke or just a quick way to get in her pants. However after much persuasion on his part, Kimmy agreed to go with him. She actually didn't know why she agreed but at least she had an attractive date to the ball. She was actually pretty sure the last guy to take her on a date was Albus Potter.
Getting ready was fairly easy for Kimberly. She never put on that much make-up and she get her hair down and straight. No curls or fancy up do for this girl. And her dress she was sure no one else would have. Only she could pull it off since she wasn't going to be like everyone else and wear the tight red or black dress. No, hers was a light blue with some gold shimmer in it. And there was a rather large bow at the top right where her breasts were, like they were a present or something. It made her roommates laugh when she told them that while they were all getting changed. Even they were surprised Kim was actually going to the dance and she was pretty sure they were jealous that she was going with Hyp. Even though she was sure one or two of them might have slept with him already. But oh well, Kim was his date not his one night stand. And that made her feel better about going with him to this dance.
Kimmy was just getting ready to meet Hyp downstairs when one of the fifth year girls came into her dorm balling her eyes out. The young girl was already dressed up in her evening wear and there was mascara running down her face. Honestly, Kim was never good in these situations but she had to stay since this young girl was her friend. She sat the fifth year down trying to calm her down and trying to make out what she was saying. After a while Kim found out that this girl's boyfriend had cheated on her with a Ravenclaw and was taking the Ravenclaw claw to the dance instead of her. Resulting in a breakup between the two. Drama like this is why Kim never bothered to be in a long lasting relationship or believe in love at this age. She tried calming the girl down but it was a wasted effort. Seeing this might take a bit Kim asked a third year to deliver a message to Hyp saying there was some drama and to just wait for her at the dance. The young girl just nodded her head and in no time was back with his answer saying he would wait for her at the entrance to the dance.
By the time Kim was leaving she felt bad for Hyp having to wait for her and for leaving the fifth year up in the dorm still crying. But after a while she saw that this girl was never going to stop and Kim wasn't going to let it ruin her night. So without warning she just left and made her way through the hallways in the dungeon to the staircase that lead to the first floor. Even though Kimmy wasn't a master in heels, the ones she wore were ones she wore often so she was able to walk in them and hopefully dance in them most of the night. When she reached the top of the stairs she looked around and caught Hyp at the entrance waiting for her, fidgeting but waiting. Actually she half expected him to go with some other girl since the wait was longer than she hoped.
Walking over Kim had a smile on her face and tried to look the best she could in her dress. Shoulders back and making it look like she wasn't completely out of place at this ball. "I'm sorry about the wait," She said as soon as she was in front of him. "Crazy girl drama that I'm sure you don't want to know about. I didn't even want to hear about it but I got pulled in." Kimmy said shrugging her shoulders slightly and then looking at what he was wearing. His tie matched nicely with her dress. The only thing the two really talked about after she agreed to be his date. "You look very handsome, Hyp." She told him again smiling. How did she manage to get a date with him again to the ball? "Wanna dance? Or grab a drink first?" Kimberly asked knowing the should head in by now but she didn't want to drag him to the dance floor.
